London Business School’s (LBS) Nader Tavassoli spoke of his delight at the impact his award-winning Nespresso case has made since being published in 2012, when collecting the Strategy and General Management Award last Thursday (8 June).

The case in question, which was authored by Nader and fellow case experts Jamie Anderson and Mark Collins, explored how CEO Richard Girardot would defend and grow the Nespresso franchise in the midst of increased competition.

Nespresso podsThe popularity of the case ultimately led to the trio winning the Strategy and General Management category, with Vicky Lester, The Case Centre Deputy Director, presenting Nader with his trophy as part of a lunch celebration in central London last week.

“I’m thrilled that Jamie, Mark and I have been presented with this award, as it further underlines the impact the case is having in classrooms around the world,” said Nader, a Professor of Marketing at LBS.

George Clooney “Case teachers have found Nespresso to be a great medium through which to engage students in debating strategy and marketing, as the majority of participants have had some sort of experience with Nespresso. Teachers can bring in the brand’s products to make sessions even more interactive and playing adverts with George Clooney also helps of course.

“All in all, Nespresso are an extremely interesting brand to write and learn about.”
