The Case Centre held its first in-person Case Awards presentation since 2019 - owing to the COVID-19 pandemic - at the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) on Thursday 28 April 2022 in Switzerland.

Ornella Lupoi with her awardThe Case Centre's Director, Richard McCracken, visited IMD’s Lausanne campus to present Niccolò Pisani with his Overall Winner Award, and Vanina Farber and Shih-Han Huang with their Outstanding Case Writer Competition trophies. Niccolò’s co-author, Ornella Lupoi, attended from Amsterdam via Zoom.

The ceremony was hosted by IMD’s Dean of Innovation and Programs David Bach and Dean of Faculty Seàn Meehan.

Niccolò and Ornella made it five successes in the Overall Award category for IMD (1993, 1995, 2002, 2014 and 2022).

On presenting their award Richard McCracken said: “Niccolò and Ornella’s award-winning case adidas: How to Keep Running Fast in a Post-COVID-19 World? is an extraordinarily fresh and topical exploration of business in the time of the pandemic. Even more impressively, they produced a high-quality case in the space of a few months at the height of COVID-19 in the summer of 2020.

“The case is fresh and fun, with an in-depth teaching note, and it's no wonder teachers and students around the world are engaged with it.”

Vanina and Shih-Han won the Outstanding Case Writer Competition with their case Angaza: A Silicon Valley Journey, which focuses on a female social entrepreneur with a for-profit mindset.

Richard McCracken commented: “In a competition that had 75 entries from 33 schools in 16 different countries, Vanina and Shih-Han really are outstanding winners, as recognised by the judges who said the case was incredibly well researched and written, a very relevant topic, and had a brilliant accompanying teaching note.”
