About Bologna Business School

Bologna Business School (BBS) is the international business school of the University of Bologna, the oldest university in the Western world. Founded to shape a new generation of business leaders, BBS equips students with the skills to drive international growth and digital transformation with a strong commitment to sustainability.

Located in the heart of Italy’s Motor Valley and Food Valley, BBS offers a unique learning experience through an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented approach, developed in close collaboration with Italy’s industry champions in sectors such as automotive, food and wine, sustainability, automation and robotics, and luxury.

The School offers a wide portfolio of programmes, including full-time Master's degrees, Executive MBAs, and Executive Education courses, all designed to prepare students for the complexity of today’s global business landscape.

BBS’ multicampus consists of Villa Guastavillani, a stunning 16th -century residence, and the New Campus, featuring three state-of-the-art buildings designed to the highest standards of sustainability and surrounded by lush greenery. This unique setting allows past, present, and future to coexist and thrive together.

BBS is EQUIS-accredited, a prestigious recognition awarded by EFMD Global, certifying the School’s excellence in teaching, research, and engagement with the business world.

With a strong focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and diversity, BBS fosters a dynamic and inclusive community where students, faculty, and professionals come together to shape the future of business.

About the collection

The BBS series of case studies and teaching notes takes Italian Excellence Global, reflecting the School’s commitment to academic rigour, managerial relevance, and responsible leadership.

Originally conceived during the 2018 Faculty Retreat to meet the growing demand for high-quality, interdisciplinary teaching materials, the project has evolved steadily thanks to strong faculty engagement and close collaboration with leading companies across a wide range of industries.

Between 2019 and 2020, the first cases were developed with the support of The Case Centre, internal workshops, classroom testing with students and alumni, and in-depth dialogue with top management from featured companies. From the outset, the initiative emphasised interdisciplinary and practical relevance, bridging business functions and fostering creativity.

Since 2021, the series has expanded to address key contemporary challenges such as sustainability, digital transformation, internationalisation and entrepreneurship, showcasing real-world examples and promoting diversity in business contexts and leadership approaches.

This trajectory culminated in 2024 with the launch of the BBS Impact Hub, serving both as a community and a platform for developing, teaching, and sharing the case study collection. The initiative reinforces BBS’ international orientation, supporting global learning and the exchange of ideas beyond borders. It also supports a culture of merit and inclusion, encouraging faculty and students alike to contribute meaningfully through research and teaching grounded in fairness and real-world impact.

Today, Taking Italian Excellence Global is a dynamic, internationally recognised initiative that continues to grow - fuelling impactful learning, innovation, and responsible leadership around the world.
