About Wits Business School

Wits Business School (WBS) is the graduate school of business administration of the University of the Witwatersrand, one of the top tertiary institutes in Africa.

The School offers a variety of postgraduate academic programmes and executive education programmes as well as weekly public seminars. WBS also designs tailor-made, in-company programmes, partnering with client organisations to develop management capacity. With a full suite of programmes on offer, WBS delivers innovative, transformative, and immersive learning experiences using generative thinking methodologies.

The School’s aim is to deliver leaders who can fashion the future of Africa and raise the values-bar on how business is done on the continent. Learning is therefore relevant to the challenges and opportunities faced in Africa, providing students with a deep understanding of the complexities of doing business in Africa within a global context.

About the collection

Wits Business School (WBS) makes extensive use of the case method in their classrooms and they have a number of skilled case teachers on their staff. Recognising that the South African business environment has many unique characteristics which cannot be explored in international cases, WBS established the Case Centre in 1999 to research and write cases on South African business. To ensure their cases are of the highest standard, they retained a Harvard-trained case writer to help develop the specialised skills we needed. Today, those skills are firmly entrenched in the Case Centre and its approach to case writing.

WBS is the largest producer of case studies in Africa and their repertoire of cases is growing continually. WBS’ cases cover all areas of business and management, including strategy, finance, organisational design and development, globalisation and human resources. They are increasingly used across the world by universities, educational institutions and corporations, and highly regarded for the quality of debate and learning that they generate.

WBS has also made a selection of cases accessible free of charge. Browse the cases here
