Case: Electrolux: the Acquisition and Integration of Zanussi Shouldice Hospital Ltd.

Date published: 1989

This case describes the acquisition, turnaround and integration of Zanussi by Electrolux. Zanussi, though still a major company, had lost its way in over-diversification, was on the verge of bankruptcy, demoralised, lacking investment and beset by labour problems. Electrolux turned Zanussi around from a 120 billion lire loss to a 60 billion lire profit. The case focuses on managing acquisitions within the context of an industry that is rapidly globalising.
