The Case Centre’s top 40 bestselling cases

Thirty-fifth - Sunwind AB (A)
The case
Case: Sunwind AB (A) Sunwind
Authors: Robert S. Collins
Institution: IMD
Ref: IMD-6-0132
Date published: 1988

This case invites students to develop a just-in-time action plan for Sunwind AB’s Säve plant which supplied interior trims to Volvo. The plan was needed to help solve capacity and quality problems, as well as the threat of potential plant closure. The newly appointed Managing Director, Lars Olov Larsson, was convinced that the successful implementation of just-in-time delivery onto Volvo's assembly line at its Torslanda plant, only eight Kilometres away, would guarantee not only the viability of the Säve plant but also provide Sunwind with a sorely needed competitive advantage. This is the first of a two-case series. French and Spanish translations are available.
