Debapratim Purkayastha awarded case honour

21 October 2014

Many congratulations to Debapratim Purkayastha who has been awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for his ‘Exemplary Contribution in Case Development’ by his university, IFHE (The ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education). The special honour also included a cash award.

This follows Debapratim’s success earlier this year when he and his co-author, Adapa Srinivasa Rao, were awarded The Case Centre’s 2014 Knowledge, Information and Communication Systems Award for their winning case, Digital Marketing at Nike: From Communication to Dialogue.

Says Debapratim: ‘I was just blown away by my university's (IFHE) kind and thoughtful gesture of formally honouring me on the occasion of Founder's Day (The Third NJ Yasawasy Memorial Lecture) held at our campus in Hyderabad. The event was webcast live to all our sister B-schools and universities across India.

The Case Centre's role

‘Everything The Case Centre has done to recognise the value of the contribution made by case authors definitely played a part in making this happen,’ says Debapratim. ‘The senior management of my institution always appreciated my contributions in this area, but I feel that The Case Centre’s ‘bestselling authors’ feature finally led them to formally appreciate my contributions on such an important and high-profile occasion.

‘Our beloved founder Professor NJ Yasaswy was a great institution builder who had a phenomenal impact on the higher education scene in the country. The case development initiative at our B-school, IBS Hyderabad, was his brainchild and very close to his heart. Though IBS was a relatively late entrant on the case development scene, he believed that we could still catch up and be counted among the best. We are really grateful to him for inspiring us to achieve this feat. I am happy that I have played my small part in realising this vision. It is this that makes this award most special to me.’

The main speaker at the event, Harish Bhat, Group Executive Council Member for Tata Sons, delivered the third NJY Memorial Lecture on 'The Building Blocks of Outstanding Leadership'.

Says Debapratim: ‘Harish Bhat gives an example of case writing while illustrating how business acumen is one of the building blocks of leadership. He talks about how single-minded focus can lead to extraordinary success. This was very inspiring for those people in the audience who are involved in developing cases.’ (Harish Bhat’s presentation can be viewed in the above video.)
