Case protagonist, Kiril Alexandrov, helped to mark a special occasion for the winners of our Knowledge, Information and Communication Systems Management Award who were presented with their trophies at Harvard Business School.

Benjamin Edelman, Associate Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, and Scott Duke Kominers, a Junior Fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows were the recipients of the award, presented by The Case Centre’s Director, Richard McCracken.

Benjamin and Scott said they especially like this case because it combines two different versions of Kiril:

‘The protagonist, on the one hand, who is an exceptional salesman offering an offbeat product that people are proud to have in their pockets all the time, while at the same time, his core task is selling more stuff with lower online advertising expense, a challenge almost every business can relate to.’

Celebratory lunch

Richard congratulated Benjamin and Scott and said how pleased he was to see Kiril at the event, which included a celebratory lunch. Kiril has previously described the benefits of taking part in the winning case, Online Marketing at Big Skinny, as ‘almost too numerous to mention’.

Says Richard: Kiril told me how rewarding it is to be a protagonist, but what really grabbed me was his story of applying for a business loan for another newly set up company.

‘He approached his appointment at the bank with apprehension as the sum was large, desperately needed, and he wasn't sure if he would get it. But the bank official recognised him from having been taught the Big Skinny case on a recently completed Executive MBA.  He said: ‘I know you.  You're the guy with the wallets."  Kiril got news the loan had been approved before he reached home after the interview.’
