The Case Centre’s Director, Richard McCracken, visited Harvard Business School and the University of Innsbruck to present our Production and Operations Management Award 2015. The recipients were Karim R Lakhani, an Associate Professor of Business Administration at Harvard, Johann Füller, Professor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Innsbruck, and Katja Hutter, Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Quantitative Social Sciences (IQSS), Harvard University.

Celebratory events

The special celebratory lunch at Harvard Business School was also attended by our US office staff, Eric Aldrich and Tricia Haskell, while the presentation at Innsbruck took place in the Rector’s Salon and was attended by Matthias Bank, Dean of the Innsbruck School of Management and Tilmann D. Märk, Rector of the University of Innsbruck.

Winning case

The winning case, Open Innovation at Siemens, was also co-written with Stephanie Healy Pokrywa, a Recruiting Director at the Boston Consulting Group

The authors believe that one key ingredient for a successful case is to have a real challenge to which there is no easy solution.

‘It’s good have in-depth knowledge about the topic and some knowledge about the company you want to write about,’ they add. ‘This may help you establish a good relationship with the company and its managers, and this enables you to carry out intensive research and collaborate with the company to get deep and rich insights.’
