The Case Centre’s Director, Richard McCracken, was at Harvard Business School recently to present our Strategy and General Management Award at a special celebratory lunch. The presentation was also attended by our US office staff, Eric Aldrich and Tricia Haskell.

The recipients were David B. Yoffie, the School’s Max and Doris Starr Professor of International Business Administration, and Penelope Rossano, a Research Associate at the School, co-authors of the winning case, Apple Inc. in 2012.

‘Apple has remained an object of fascination for faculty and students alike for more than 20 years,’ says David, explaining the popularity of the case..

‘But superior products alone do not equate to competitive advantage: Apple almost went bankrupt in the mid-1990s with a superior product. It took a new strategy to create an entirely new value chain and ecosystem to build the Apple we know today.’

David was also our 2015 Overall Award winner. Find out more >
