The Case Centre’s Finance, Accounting and Control Award 2015 was presented to Bo BeckerCarliss Y. Baldwin, and Vincent Dessain at separate ceremonies held at Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), Harvard Business School and the Harvard Business School Europe Research Center.

The winning case, Roche’s Acquisition of Genentech, was co-authored by Bo, a Professor in the Department of Finance at SSE, Carliss, the William L. White Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School and Vincent, Executive Director at the Europe Research Center.

Delighted and honoured

Vincent said: ‘The Award really encourages other staff in the Research Center in their work and recognises the value of what they do. I am delighted and feel very honoured to receive this prestigious Award.’

The Dean of Harvard Business School, Nitin Nohria, sent Vincent his personal congratulations saying he saw the Award as important recognition of the value of his work.

Celebratory lunch

The Case Centre’s Director, Richard McCracken, presented the award to Carliss at a special celebratory lunch. Our US team, Eric Aldrich and Tricia Haskell, were also there to congratulate Carliss on her success.

As part of the presentation to Bo, held in the prestigious Ohlin Room at SSE, a special lunch was hosted by the School’s President, Professor Lars Strannegård, attended by Bo’s colleagues and some of his students, representing various cohorts.

Professor Strannegård welcomed everyone and said how delighted he was at Bo’s success. The Case Centre’s Director, Richard McCracken, presented the award and Bo gave a brief talk, describing how interesting the case was to write.

‘The involvement of the company and Franz Humer’s personal involvement has produced a fantastic learning experience for students, especially as he and colleagues attended classes at Harvard Business School when the case was used,’ said Bo.
