The Dean of Vlerick Business School, Philippe Haspeslagh, warmly congratulated the winners of our 2015 Outstanding Case Writer: Hot Topic Competition, Steve Muylle and Stijn Viaene, at a special presentation ceremony held at the School’s Brussels campus. The event was also attended by Frank Donck, Vice Chairman of Vlerick Business School, and the winners’ colleagues.

Steve, Full Professor and Partner at the School and Ghent University, and
Stijn, Full Professor and Partner at the School and KU Leuven, won the competition with their case Hello bank! The Birth of a Mobile Bank.

The trophies were presented by The Case Centre’s Deputy Director, Vicky Lester, who said: ‘The Hot Topic for this competition was ‘digital transformation’, and this case offers a fascinating insight into exactly that. It explores the launch of the first ever totally mobile bank.

Celebratory reception

Dean Haspeslagh spoke of the importance of recognising and enjoying the achievements of the School and said he was delighted to see Steve and Stijn standing where he stood in 1992 and 1997 when he won case awards.

Vlerick was founded in 1953 by the renowned academic, entrepreneur and politician, Professor André Vlerick, and has used cases since it opened its doors to students. Vlerick encourages faculty to write cases, believing that it enhances their credibility and that of the school.
