ICFAI Business School Hyderabad, India, hosted a special ceremony to present the 2016 Knowledge, Information and Communications Systems Award to Debapratim Purkayastha and Tangirala Vijay Kumar for their case, Netflix: Leveraging Big Data to Predict Entertainment Hits.

The Case Centre’s Director said he was honoured to be at the school to present the trophies and congratulated the winners on their outstanding achievement.

Richard said: ‘This case explores big data, laying to rest once and for all the idea that big data is no more than a passing buzzword. As the case reveals, the hugely successful movie rental and streaming company Netflix use big data to achieve tremendous advantages over their competitors.

‘As the authors have pointed out, students who want to remain relevant in today’s job market had better pay attention. The explosive growth in the volume of data means that it is imperative to find meaningful ways to leverage data and use it to drive business decision-making and growth.’
