Congratulations to Joel L. Heilprin, Finance Professor at Hult International Business School, who was presented with the Finance, Accounting and Control Award by The Case Centre’s Deputy Director, Vicky Lester.

Joel was at Illinois Institute of Technology when the case, Valuation of AirThread Connections, was written with his winning co-author Erik Stafford, John A. Paulson Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School.

Vicky congratulated Joel and his co-author, Erik, on their achievement. The case is a cleverly fictionalised account of true events that explores the tension between WACC-based DCF (weighted average cost of capital/discounted cash flow) and APV (adjusted present value), when each method should be used, and whether they can be combined in the same analysis.

Students enjoy the case and it’s enjoyable to teach, say the authors, because it demonstrates how several financial concepts can be weaved together, making it a challenging and comprehensive case which also mirrors real-world financial analysis and modelling.
