With this year’s hot topic being ‘Big Data – Risks and Opportunities’, the authors were recognised for their case study on Recruit Japan, the world’s fourth largest staffing company by revenue.

Howard and Ivy’s case, which was also authored by fellow IMD colleague Thomas W Malnight, focused on how Recruit could expand and transform itself into a truly global Internet corporation.

A delighted Howard and Ivy were presented with their award by Antoinette Mills, The Case Centre’s Media and Systems Development Manager, before IMD faculty staff and President Jean-François Manzoni, with the duo hoping this recognition can help raise awareness of their case.

“We are honoured to win this award as the IMD team,” said Howard, Professor of Strategic Management, and Ivy, Research Associate.

“The case method is core to teaching in IMD’s MBA and Exec Ed programmes and we consistently develop new cases to bring the latest management thinking to the classroom. A winning case is a validation of our efforts and we hope for wider adoption by institutions worldwide.”

Prior to Howard and Ivy receiving the award, Jean-François Manzoni was keen to pay tribute to their case.

The IMD President added: “It’s brilliant to be able to celebrate this award, as a lot of hard work has be put in to get to this stage.

“Howard, Ivy and Thomas deserve to be recognised like this for the impact their case has had. What’s really exciting is that they’re already working on an electronic version of this case, so it can make even more of an impact.”
