The Case Centre Awards 2017
Bath academic ‘fascinated’ with winning case
The University of Bath School of Management’s Michael Lewis was presented with the Production and Operations Management Case Award in Edinburgh last Tuesday (4 July).
As part of EurOMA 2017, an Operations Management conference, at Heriot-Watt University, Michael was in attendance to collect the Productions and Operations Management accolade from Fran Baylis, The Case Centre's Content Acquisition and Rights Manager.
Michael co-authored the winning entry on Spanish clothing giant Zara with Kasra Ferdows and Universidad de Sevilla’s Jose A.D. Machuca, who was presented with his award in June.
Having produced one of The Case Centre’s all-time bestselling in 2003 with their first case on Zara, Mike and his colleagues were delighted to return to the subject.
“Zara’s story has been and continues to be absolutely fascinating,” said Mike, a Professor of Operations and Supply Management in Information, Decisions and Operations Division at University of Bath School of Management.
“We have been following the events in this company since our last case and been delighted, and frankly a little surprised, to see that they have continued to become better year after year.
“We thought we should update the case, but after we went back and observed the operations and interviewed the senior managers, we decided to write almost a new case. There is still a lot to learn from this company.”

The 2017 case awards continue to be handed out to winners across the world.
