Vijaya “Vi” Narapareddy was presented with the 2019 Outstanding Contribution to the Case Method Award at last month’s Academy of Management Annual Conference in the US.

The Case Centre Director Richard McCracken and Vi were both in attendance at the AOM event in Boston, on America’s East Coast, and Richard brought along the trophy.

Richard presented the accolade at a PDW session on cases, which looked at using technology in case teaching, that Vi helped organise.

And the Daniels College of Business Associate Professor (Department of Management) was deeply honoured to receive an award that has been won by the likes of the late and illustrious case method practitioner David A. Garvin.

“I am extremely moved to be presented with the Contribution to the Case Method Award in front of my peers, who are equally dedicated to the case method,” said Vi, who teaches traditional and online courses in Business Policy and Strategy.

“I am also hugely honoured to be a recipient of an award that recognises my personal contribution to the case method, and proud to have played a part in supporting and developing an approach to learning that is so impactful.”

As well as her teaching exploits, Vi is a respected case writer, publishing articles and numerous case studies in Ethics, Corporate Governance, Sustainable Finance, Global Strategy, and Global Entrepreneurship in premier journals.

Richard added: “The award recognises Vi’s long-standing and significant contribution to the case method in all its component parts: as a teacher, educator, researcher and award-winning case writer. And for her continuing generosity in offering support to colleagues in developing their own skills in this most impactful of approaches to business education.

“Vi has led workshops on the case method around the world, of which today’s workshop is an example, and is a former chair of NACRA.

“Her enthusiasm for the case method is reflected in her continuing exploration of new approaches: live cases, news-based cases, co-teaching with industry experts, and the use of new technologies.”
