Cases Patagonia
This case traces Patagonia's efforts to take responsibility for the high-quality environmentally friendly garments it made, ‘from birth to death and then beyond death, back to rebirth.’ The initiative consisted of a mutual contract between the company and its customers to ‘reduce, repair, reuse, and recycle’ the clothing that they bought.

Meet Ramon

BiographyRamon Casadesus-Masanell is the Herman C. Krannert Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. He joined HBS in 2000 where he has taught the required MBA strategy course, an elective course on competing business models, and PhD courses on strategy and game theory. He also teaches on several HBS executive education programmes.

Ramon specialises in management strategy, managerial economics, and industrial organisation. He is also interested in the limits to contracting and the role of trust in management strategy. He has published in a number of journals including Management ScienceJournal of Economics & Management StrategyStrategic Management Journal, USC Interdisciplinary Law JournalHarvard Business Review.

Together with Professor Daniel F. Spulber (Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University), Ramon edits the Journal of Economics & Management Strategy (JEMS), the leading academic journal on the economics of strategy.
