Are you looking for new ways to inspire your students and encourage participant-centred learning? This one-day course will explore cases and beyond to discover an exciting range of additional methods and materials for problem-based learning.

Overview

Case teaching and case writing are two sides of the same coin: they belong together and are most effective when they inform each other. This one-day workshop led by Martin Kupp is dedicated to exploring the link between case teaching and case writing, but will also go beyond cases to discuss a wide range of additional materials including video, problem descriptions, incidents and many more. The aim is to discover new and exciting ways to engage students at all levels, from undergraduate to executive, and deliver problem-based and participant-centred learning.

Participants

This workshop will be of benefit to anyone interested in participatory and exploratory learning and wishing to:

  • reflect on their own teaching
  • improve their classroom skills
  • explore the use of non-standard material for educational purposes
  • link case teaching with case writing or other material
  • link their research with teaching.

Participants may include:

  • faculty and trainers from all sectors or disciplines within management education, teaching at any level from undergraduate to executive
  • faculty and trainers from a wide range of other disciplines with some connection to or interest in management education.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • discover a wide range of useful and effective material for teaching
  • gain a broader understanding of how these types of material can be used in the classroom
  • get fresh ideas and recommendations on how to combine/link case teaching and case writing.

After the workshop participants will be able to:

  • select from a wide range of diverse teaching materials with confidence
  • use a broad range of both traditional and non-standard material to great effect in the classroom
  • tailor material from any source for the classroom
  • use their research in the classroom
