This is part of a case series. This teaching case explores the strategic decisions related to international expansion on the basis of Target, the large US-based retailer. Three key decisions are to be made: 1) Should we internationalize? 2) If so, what foreign markets offer the best opportunities given our strategy and competence in cheap chic? 3) How should we enter a particular foreign market?
Learning objectives:
1. Students should get to know and understand key international business phenomena and concepts, such as target market identification, market entry, internationalization process, and cultural and institutional distance.
