Abstract

This case study is about investing in a rather rudimentary supply chain of which main issues are linked to lack of supply chain infrastructure, poor planning and co-ordination of activities. The case also puts the boundaries of supply chain management (from a Western perspective) into question especially if applied to African markets: In general, there are several factors that affect the performance of Africa’s agrarian supply chains in particular. However a number of them can be classified as managerial in structure. The challenges raised in this case are therefore intended to underscore two points: I) The interaction between activities of a supply chain, and the driving role of the responsible manager, and; II) Networking to build supplier loyalty.
