Field research
Peter and Sophie are a young Franco-Norwegian couple with extensive experience of international travel. In 2008, Peter’s Norwegian company sent him to Iran for a period of 18 months. After some hesitation, and despite her family’s concerns, Sophie decided to follow him. The case shows how the company prepares employees for expatriation. It reveals the challenges of managing multicultural teams and highlights the difficulties of the couple’s everyday life in Iran. The partner’s point of view is particularly emphasized, notably through the gradual development of a a feeling of imprisonment. The case ends with a dilemma facing Peter and Sophie - between his career and their personal well-being.
