Abstract

This is the first of a two-case series. Media Development Loan Fund (MDLF), founded since 1995 as a foundation to promote professional and independent media in emerging democracies, has established itself as a credible model for social purpose investments. Case A traces the evolution of MDLF's business model from its founding in 1995 through 2010 to address the issues of financial sustainability and scalability which social enterprises typically struggle with.
