Abstract

This is the second of a two-case series. Media Development Loan Fund (MDLF), founded since 1995 as a foundation to promote professional and independent media in emerging democracies, has established itself as a credible model for social purpose investments. Case B delves into how its venture philanthropy model and principles, which explain deviations in its investment processes from a typical venture capitalist, help MDLF achieve both social and financial returns.
