This paper will appeal to those who are relatively new to case writing for teaching purposes and are not quite sure of the purpose, nature or form of a teaching note. Whilst there is no universally accepted template, the thought processes and imagination that are employed in the design of a programme of study in which a case is used forms the basis of a teaching note. This paper prompts such thought and takes you through six components that The Case Centre will expect you to address before accepting your case for publication. A good teaching note will enhance the learning experience of your students and its appeal to others around the world who are on the lookout for a case for use with their students. Publication of a teaching note alongside your case is the passport to its acceptance and the determinant of its impact, wherever it is used. A really good teaching note will increase the return on your investment of time in its completion and raise your profile as a case writer. It is hard work, but well worth the effort.
