The Case Centre Connect Issue 37, New Year 2019

Dear colleague

Welcome to the New Year issue of Connect!

Our first featured case looks at how American aviation manufacturer Honeywell Aerospace is trying to change the way aircraft are maintained using cognitive analytics.

We then visit the hospitality industry and see how the global hotel chain Hilton is dealing with questions of human trafficking and modern-day slavery in the sector.

Quizzing is the subject of interest in the third case, as Quiz Kerala hope to expand and become one of the leading entertainment companies in India. We finish with Spotify’s unusual direct listing on the New York Stock Exchange.

Next up, our two features put the spotlight on the first ever World Case Teaching Day on 5 February 2019, and how case writers work with authors to support the development of a case.

IESE Business School’s Josep Valor is the latest ‘5 minutes with…’ participant, talking the evolution of the case method, oncology and living in New York.

Best wishes
The Case Centre team

Hear about ICFAI Business School’s (IBS) commitment to the case method from Debapratim Purkayastha, Dean (Case Research Center). Watch here.

“The case method is an unparalleled approach that engages students deeply in the study of business, builds up the decision-making muscles of students, develops in them the specialty of being a general manager, and keeps the scholars who write cases close to the practice of management.” – Jan W Rivkin, Harvard Business School. “Every case should have a good teaching note as faculty hate to adopt a case without one. I’m not sure how many cases I’ve sold in total, but each one is a learning moment that I’ve helped to create. That is the payback.” – Nirmalya Kumar, Singapore Management University. Read more.
