The Case Centre Connect Issue 47, September 2020
padding

Dear colleague

Welcome to the September issue of Connect!

As we settle into a fall semester that looks different to previous years, we hope that this issue will provide you with some interesting case method insights.

Have you wondered how to get case development going at your school? Our first feature provides ideas to help stimulate, sustain and support case writing.

Our second feature recaps the key online case teaching best practice takeaways from Angela Lee's webinar earlier this year.

Two of our featured cases look at leadership: Jan Van Hasenbroek and Yuliana Slashcheva. While the others explore launching a craft beer in China, and the intersections between mining, agriculture and development in Kenya.

The ‘5 minutes with…’ hot seat is taken by Michael Netzley. He shares his opinions on using tech for case teaching, and how the online case teaching landscape may evolve in future years.

Stay safe and healthy!

Watch back our webinar, Making Online Case Teaching Interactive: Digital Workspaces for Whiteboards and Breakouts, with Michael Netzley, Institute for Management Development (IMD). Watch here.

“Doing online what one would do in class, without rethinking the students’ online experience and the advantages of online learning, diminishes that online experience.” – Srikant Datar, Harvard Business School. See more.

“When teaching cases online I heavily use breakout room discussions and put together different groups each time to create a novelty factor for the students, which enables them to interact with more people than they would in a physical space.” – David Dubois, INSEAD. Read more.

The inaugural issue of Case Focus features five peer-reviewed teaching cases set in the Middle East and Africa. Discover cases on Benson Shoes, Grand Cinemas, RDRS Mining, Saphon Energy and SWVL. Find out more.
