The Case Centre Connect Issue 54, November 2021

Dear colleague

Welcome to the November issue of Connect!

With the year almost at an end, we bring you the last edition of Connect in 2021.

In our first featured case a German CEO and company founder is trying to ensure his medical software company remains competitive. The second case focuses on Gillette's attempts to retain and attract a younger audience in Russia.

The other two featured cases explore a scenario where a new teaching practice is unpopular amongst teachers and students alike, and an American funk group bucks the conventional music industry trend and takes charge of its own affairs.

In addition, take a deep dive into our case method feature articles for some case teaching and writing inspiration, and discover our Top 50 Bestselling Case Authors 2020/21.

Finally, hear from IE Business School Assistant Professor and our newly-appointed Executive Committee member, Martina Pasquini, in ‘5 minutes with…’.

Stay safe and healthy!

Catch up with last month’s webinar with the Center for Equity, Gender & Leadership (EGAL) at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business on implementing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in cases and classes. Watch here. “Case based learning is unmatched in its ability to engage students and teach essential concepts that are relevant to practicing managers.” – Syeda Maseeha Qumer, ICFAI Business School (IBS). Read more. “A good business case allows professors to lead students into unexpected yet relevant business lessons. An excellent business case transports students and invites them to think, explore, and learn by themselves with the careful guidance of the professor.” – Horacio Falcão, INSEAD. See more. Would you like to use cases to teach students how to lead in a polarised world? We’re hosting a free webinar on this subject with experts from the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, on 6 December 2021 (16h-17h GMT). Discover more.
