Abstract

This teaching case can be used in a course of operations management, technology management, or supply chain management. It describes current challenges of energy market, especially focusing on DSOs (Distribution System Operator) such as Eandis. Eandis needed to guarantee system stability by balancing demand and supply in the grid, and meanwhile improve system flexibility in order to achieve its long-term goal 'The journey to green energy'. To do so, Eandis would like to collaborate with energy storage devices such as Tesla batteries. Therefore the missing element in traditional energy supply chain, inventory management or storage management, came into scope and would bring challenges in various aspects.
