Abstract

Should limits be placed upon the careers which former Ministers are allowed to pursue after they leave office? In particular, should Ministers be free to join the boards of companies with which they have dealt closely as part of their official positions? Using the Committee on Standards in Public Life''s 1995 Report, this case examines these questions and asks whether former Ministers should face similar, or even tougher, restrictions on their employment after leaving office than those placed upon senior servants.
