Abstract
This is an in-class version of the case. LFC Engineering, a small enterprise created in 2001 and located in the northern part of Italy, provides technical design, modelling and engineering services for subcontractors in the aerospace sector. In the past five years, it has developed significant experience in hardware modules for aircraft simulators. The organisation resembles a typical Italian small enterprise, featuring a simple, flat structure with ten employees: the general manager (the only shareholder), seven technicians and two administrative workers. Its recent work with large, multinational airplane producers has confronted LFC with a few problems regarding its implementation of an effective project management structure and adoption of a modern project management mind-set. A new project, constructing a military flight simulator, seemed to LFC management like the perfect opportunity to improve its operations and ensure consistently high quality outputs. To achieve this goal though, management needs your help.
