Abstract
The power loom industry in Surat, an industrial city in Southern part of Gujarat (Western India), was paralyzed due to the strike of power loom workers, of which most of them were the migrant workers. The workers demanded a rise in wages, which resulted in a mass exodus of workers from the city to their home towns. The strike continued for a week due to which the industry lost Rs 7.2 billion. The case describes the various events of the strike and the response of various stakeholders. It also discusses the effect of strike on the industry. It talks about the role of governments, executing bodies, trade unions and workers in the strike.
