Abstract

First Island Bank operates a profit-sharing plan as part of its reward and incentive system, but its performance evaluation system is not favourable to back-office staff. Following a mass exodus of competent and experienced back-office staff, the management wishes to improve the system and find some objective measurements to use in evaluating staff performance. Two alternatives have been proposed and one of them, the 'near-zero error rate,' is favoured by the heads of Financial Control and Human Resources. Instructions to participants: Your task is to propose one of the identified alternatives to the Managing Director and the various heads of department. In no more than ten minutes, you should persuade your audience to accept your proposal. The main objective is to have students put into practice what they have previously learnt about audience analysis, argumentation, presentation outline and oral presentation skills. Students are expected to identify and articulate arguments that address the concerns of their audience and convince them that the proposed solution will lead to increased retention rates and higher morale amongst back-staff office.
