Abstract

This chapter is excerpted from ‘Export Marketing Strategy: Tactics and Skills That Work'. Chapter 14. Upon completing this chapter you should: (1) understand general cost concepts and basic cost classifications; (2) understand the different types of export costs; (3) understand cost variability; (4) be able to perform sensitivity analysis; (5) be able to differentiate between relevant and irrelevant costs in decision making; and (6) be able to evaluate the importance of certain factors, other than the costs, in calculating the cost of goods for foreign markets. This book describes the steps necessary to achieve success in export marketing. It is a step-by-step guide to the art and science of export marketing, from initial discovery to researching new markets, to the financial aspects, to managing ongoing operations. It is written for small to mid-size firms as a primer, and as a reference for larger firms already involved in exporting as a guide to higher levels of success.
