In recent times, the Nigerian people have seen the orchestration of violence arising from a particular sect (known as Boko Haram) based in the northern part of Nigeria opposed to anything related to Western culture. They have bombed many parts of the north, killing and maiming people at will. The bombing of a church in the northern state of Niger was one too many, testing the tolerance limit of the government. This note focuses on the role of operations strategy in reforming and positioning the Nigeria Police Force to effectively contain the Boko Haram scourge and other criminal activities (such as kidnapping and armed robbery) which have created an atmosphere of insecurity in Nigeria. The note aims to enhance the capability of participants to make and apply better operational strategic choices in order to achieve the corporate objectives of a firm, as well as to demonstrate how politics at the national level can affects the operations of a public firm.
