This note consists of a series of vignettes that describe difficult teaching experiences encountered by doctoral students early in their teaching careers. The vignettes deal with a variety of issues, including racism and ''problem students''. The vignettes are appropriate for discussion with new doctoral students and teaching professionals about how to handle difficult situations in graduate classrooms.
