Abstract
This is the first of a two-case series (IMD-3-0820 and IMD-3-0821). This case describes the procurement of non-production materials in a large multi-national company. By co-ordinated buying of these items the firm can save substantial sums. Moreover, the ''value'' received in the purchase can also be enhanced. The (A) case describes the purchasing of temporary labour and how the number of suppliers has been rationalised on a European basis. This case was previously numbered 300-026-1.
