Abstract

This is the first of a two-case series (IMD-3-0827 and IMD-3-0828). The (A) case outlines the unprecedented changes in the electrical power industry which exploded right in the middle of 1996, as Lindahl was taking over from Barnevik. The case describes how ABB was affected by these changes and, in a way, forced to transfer itself again. The (B) case looks at the key actions taken by Lindahl as 1998 drew to a close. This series covers not only the electrical power industry, but also the whole area of automation, where ABB has high stakes as well. Two industry notes, one on the electrical power industry (IMD-3-0826) and a brief one on industrial automation (IMD-3-0850) complement this case series.
