Abstract

This video is to accompany the case series. The GPS video was made in the summer of 2000. It features Jacques Horovitz, a member of the GPS strategy committee, talking to senior executives in an IMD classroom. The 17 minute video has three segments which should be shown separately. The first segment, to be shown at the end of the (A) case discussion, gives an insight to the company's assessment of the various growth options facing it. The second segment, to be shown during the (B) case discussion, is about the 'revolution' being proposed by Abittan and Horovitz. After reading the (B) case, most participants will want to adopt some elements of the proposed revolution but not others, whereas on the video Horovitz argues that it is an 'all or nothing' proposition. This piece of the video sharpens the ensuing discussion - and makes the alternatives more 'black and white'. The final segment of the video consists of a number of sub segments, all of which deal with the results of the revolution. This should be shown at the end of the (B) class.
