Abstract

This case is about the attempt by Schindler of Switzerland to introduce a new standardised elevator to the Asian region. The design and development of the product, led by a team of two people, has taken place very quickly, but now that it is ready for sale, the Asian country organisations which are part of Jardine-Schindler (a 50-50 joint venture between Jardine Matheson and Schindler), seem reluctant to sell it. The issue in the case is why they are in this apparent impasse, and where they should go from here. The participant is placed in the position of the Vice President for Asia. A video 'Schindler in Asia: The 300P Project' is available to accompany the case.
