Abstract
This case is set in the USA in 1992, and it documents the efforts made by Schindler of Switzerland to turn around the ailing escalator business that it bought from Westinghouse in 1989. It looks like the crisis is past in the market place, but there is management turmoil at the new greenfield plant that the company has built in a very rural area in the south. Everyone is leaving. Was the location decision a mistake? Is it savable? Is it time to change the general manager? How much trust is too much? A video ''Schindler Escalators USA'' (IMD-3-0742-V) is available to accompany the case.
