Abstract

This is part of a case series. This is the 'B' case to Costa Coffee. It describes how the next-generation coffee concession was developed in a very short space of time (6 months) using a team of independent experts headed by a consultant, Eric Achtmann. It provides a very detailed account of how an autonomous team can get things done quickly and effectively, and often at much lower cost than would be possible in a large corporation. It also opens up some new challenges for Costa Coffee, in terms of how the successful product can be scaled up and rolled out.
