Abstract
Harald Bonisch is an expert of quantitave methods working for Allos Re, a leading reinsurance company from Hannover with more than 10,000 employees worldwide. Due to his outstanding performance the upper management selects Harald as a the new manager for a new department. In his new role Harald will have to assign a representative project leader from the department. For this new project Harald doesn’t know or understand exactly the amount of additional work the project will need. Harald starts feeling anxious when the project duration and scope almost triples and his representative has doubts about the succes of the project. This case study belongs to the First Time Manager Case Collection. The source of this field based collection is a disguised group of 50 managers of leading German and Spanish companies. The cases are thus based on real experiences of first time managers. The objective of this collection is to help current and future managers with their transition into their role as managers.
