Abstract

Advertising costs spent by online retailers and the shopping time spent by online consumers had become the obstacles for the e-commerce in China to expand further. In 2011, Mr Wang saw a business opportunity which could help to work the problem out, shopping-guide platform. In less than three years, the company started from zero to a platform with over 15 million users. In addition, it received an investment of 12 million US dollars from venture capitals. With gaining a foothold, the company, KouDaiGouWu, had to manage challenges from technologies, to business development and partnership. What incentives made the company grow so fast? How could the company adjust its strategies and develop new business to build up competitiveness sustainably? How could the company deal with the challenges caused by the policy changes of major partners on the value chain? This case elaborates the motives of taking a part in the shopping-guide business, and how to develop the enterprise in the aspects of user interface, new business, human resource, technology and marketing. Particularly, the strategies adopted to build distinctiveness and competitiveness can help the students to have a deep insight from the perspective of entrepreneurship and business model innovation.
