Abstract

Mark Technologies Limited (MTL) was founded in 1975 near Delhi, for manufacture of automotive locks in collaboration with a Japanese manufacturing company. Initially it supplied automotive locks for two wheelers to Hero Honda Motors Ltd. (now Hero Motor Corp) and side rear view mirrors for cars to Honda Siel Car Ltd. Over the years it has grown its operations in India and overseas with subsidiaries in US, Netherland, Singapore, Poland and Java. The company started its journey with a strength of 50 employees. It further added gradually, automotive locks & mirrors to its product range. It went on to expand into manufacturing of die casting, mirror plates, dies & moulds, plastic injection moulding, and body colour paint shops. In 2003, it acquired Sigma Group and it added steel wheel rims & assemblies, clutch & brake panels, handle bars, with this acquisition to its range. Next was Alisha Enterprises in 2006, a niche auto component supplier based in Spain. This wholly owned subsidiary enjoyed over 25% global market share of Aluminium die cast components. MTL had signed two technical collaborations in 2013; one with South Korea’s Joya Corporation for manufacturing relays and the second one with Star Enterprises Co, Ltd, Taiwan to manufacture instrument clusters, fuel senders and gauges. The group had grown into a medium sized auto component supplier, having most of the Indian automotive OEM’s as its customers. MTL has grown at CAGR of 35 percent from 2001 to 2012. However the growth in 2012-13 and later was limited to single digit. It has grown into a group with 40 manufacturing locations and over 12000 employees with a turnover of US250 million.
