Abstract

Gabbar Singh, the notorious decoit, is captured and is in the new high security prison, a much more secluded confinement than the last one where he managed a jail-break. His fight with Thakur Baldev Singh, the righteous Land Lord of the region, was decisive when two capable small-time criminals Jai and Veeru became instrumental in Gabbar Singh’s capture. Gabbar now contemplates if his credibility remains within the band of bandits and if his fear still lurks in the heart of the villagers. Gabbar realized that he has always tried to create fear in the heart of villagers and also his men. Striking fear in the heart of villagers would ensure his rule over them. Crafting fear in his men was essential for him to gain the respect of his men as well as prevent them from any mutiny. Gabbar knew that finding able bodied men to work for him was never easy as the region was drought-prone, and the hard and dangerous life of a dacoit, discouraged new recruits. Further, the constant threat from police meant that Gabbar would have to maintain a mean and vigilant group of bandits. A bigger group of bandits would certainly fortify his lair but would also mean that he would have to demand food from the villagers more often. He realised that Thakur had become more resourceful by now and boasted of organised strength to bring any bandit down. He felt heady with rage and wanted to break the jail again, and re-band his group of bandits for a fresh all-out attack on Thakur.
