Abstract
The case projects Shambhumani Munjal, VP HR, with Aesthetic Lines, as victim of poor communication of a termination, issued to him via a letter by his CEO, Pawan Srihari. The letter was drafted and sent in a highly unprofessional and humiliating manner, apart from the fact that it gave no factual details about the reasons of his termination and also did not mention anything about how his three month notice period or salary in lieu thereof, in case the employer or employee from either side terminated the contract of employment. Within a few months of Pawan Srihari’s joining as CEO of Aesthetic Lines, he had started a system of centralised decision making and controlling every small decision and expenditure, thus causing considerable resentment among the employees of Aesthetic Lines. Shambhumani Munjal, who had been with the company since its inception, had been having regular arguments with Pawan on his dictatorial management style and in the past six months, they had fought almost every week. Shambhumani Munjal also had a history of exaggerating issues, getting extremely stressed on his own assessment of a situation and communicating accordingly in an impulsive manner, largely due to which he had already received three warning letters from Pawan. During one such rotuine arguments between Pawan and Shambhumani, Shambhumani got so infuriated that he banged the desk of Pawan Srihari’s office and shouted at him and in a fit of anger said that he would be happy to shoot him. The next day he received his termination letter, leaving him baffled and wondering if he should persue a legal action against the CEO.
