Abstract

This case simplifies a very complex subject. It describes the success story of implementation of strategic change management and briefly touches upon the global strategic change management program called Total Operational Performance program and its evaluation in terms of operational and financial performance of an organization. This case offers the reader a wealth of valuable material on real scenarios which underpin successful strategic change management. The international dimension is emphasised in order to overcome cultural and national barriers and to meet the needs of accelerating technological and ecological change with changes in the competitive environment organisations face today. This case can be used by various business schools for teaching strategic change management in general and students of Organization Development in particular. The objective of the case is to make students aware of various factors that play a role in the strategic change process in an organization. These factors include - the role of an external environment, importance of and existence of a core team responsible for driving the change process and initiative and lastly the role of senior management as champions of change. It can also be used by professionals in the industry to understand the commitment to change, drivers of change, resources required for change, sustenance during process, formation of the core team to drive change, role of top management in the change process, cycle of change and use of Total Operational Performance program as a tool to initiate and sustain strategic culture change.
