Abstract

In July 2015, Hero Group (Hero) announced it's entry in the domestic electronics market. Subsequently, a new company Hero Electronix was formed. Hero acquired Mybox Technologies (Mybox), a multi operator company manufacturing set top boxes (STBs), in July 2015. This acquisition was predicted to be successful in terms of allowing Hero to gain a strong foothold in the electronics market. The initiative on the whole was thought to be giving a significant thrust to the prime ministers’ 'Make in India initiative' to the digital cable market. It was imperative that this move would initiate a high growth trajectory concerning the electronics industry. Based on reports published by media, it was understood, Suman Kant Munjal would be heading the new company Hero Electronix. Considering business expansion, the new company was to seek aggressive alliance with more businesses. The deal was simply the first leap by Hero, a company operating into a dozen business verticals, in order to enter the consumer electronics market. To establish its electronics business, Hero would invest INR 5 billion in forthcoming years. Mybox, on the other hand, was recognised by Indian government and was engaged in delivering high quality STBs. Depending on the changing market scenario in STB segment, question however remained, how far successful the venture could be in terms of boosting the electronics manufacturing segment.
