Abstract

Spiceworks Inc (Spiceworks), the world's largest professional network for IT industry was founded in 2006 by four software veterans - Scott Abel, Jay Hallberg, Francis Sullivan and Greg Kattawar. Based in Austin, Texas of US, Spiceworks had developed a new class of software to disrupt and transform the small and medium business segment of the IT management software market. The company followed an innovative approach to software development and delivery. Over a period of time, Spiceworks became popular by providing free IT applications, free community and free career tools to IT professionals. Nearly 5 million IT professionals and over 3,000 leading technology brands in more than 200 countries were using Spiceworks to connect with one another, learn about the latest technologies, and do their jobs more efficiently. Spiceworks' remarkable growth attracted venture capitalists who have collectively invested $111 million via various funding rounds. In December 2014, Spiceworks was honoured as one of the 'Top Ten Best Places to Work in 2015' in the Seventh Annual Employees Choice Awards' by the Glassdoor. According to experts, the success of Spiceworks was attributed to its transparency, openness and creative culture where people were not afraid to question the status quo and try something new. Moreover, customers were also allowed to share their ideas, product reviews and feedback openly with the company. By fostering openness among all stakeholders, would Spiceworks' really spice-up the IT industry?
